| The logo representing Questy has been used by me, Tom Peracchio, as an alter ego, to represent myself. I started using it in the early 1990's, pre-internet. As I began developing web sites, and an online identity, the colors green and purple, along with the Questy character, have created my own brand identity. If you type the word Questy into your favorite search engine, you should see what I mean. |
| Who is Questy? (The Webmaster aka Tom Peracchio) |
| I have worked in sales and management of many technology
related businesses. My exploration of computers and telecommunications,
and its role in business lead me to public speaking and writing on both
business and technology issues. I am experienced in the maintenance, installation,
and upgrades of a wide variety of computer hardware and software.
I have been a service manager for small computer service companies, as well as a retail store manager responsible for management and general store operations. As a service manager for small computer service companies, as well as a retail store manager, I have been responsible for updating and maintaining numerous budgets. I have received corporate training in profit and loss management, and numerous other budget planning matters. |
| Why should you care? |
| Information and advice is only valuable if the person giving it understands your perspective in using it. I've been involved in technology as a technician, service manager, a sales person, a sales manager. I hope that I can share with you my perspectives on the technology and its implementation. |
| Questy, as a technology specialist. |
| I have set up and maintained web servers on the Novell, Linux, and Microsoft platforms. I maintain a help desk system that started out strictly on a Novell Platform using a Novell version of a server side javascript to send the form input to our GroupWise messaging service which in turn used MAPI to dump the data into the help desk. That was pretty much a homemade solution that I pieced together. Since that time we have purchased a "canned" solution that runs on Windows 2000 server and uses IIS. Even though it is a canned solution I have been asked to do quite a bit of customization to it. My personal web sites are hosted on Linux servers where I use JavaScript, PERL, and PHP. In my webmastering classes I teach the integration of JavaScript and PERL, so I have some scripts running on my sites to illustrate various concepts that I use in class. I have taught graphics, and have done graphics editing, using everything from paint, MS Photo Editor, Corel Photo Shop, to Paint Shop Pro and Fireworks. The classes I currently teach use the Macromedia Dreamweaver Suite. I personally use the Macromedia Dreamweaver Suite which uses Fireworks as its graphic creation and graphics editing solution. I also use Paint Shop Pro quite a bit for photo editing. I have only recently started to use Flash, and this is my next area of concentration as far as personal development. | Questy, as an educator and entrepreneur. |
| As an educator I teach the history of the internet, how it works from a technical perspective, as well as how it interacts with us from a business perspective. As an educator, I share my findings with you on these issues. For those who take my classes, the web sites are used to reinforce what I teach. For those who find my sites along the way on the web, hopefully they can be used as resources for self study, and tools for learning more. As an entrepreneur, I hope you take the time to check out the links, and use the ones I have provided for you, so I can continue to grow this site. As always, your comments, suggestions, and questions are welcome. |
| Domains questy.net and questy.us Questy.net is the website that started it all, and will probably always be my "home," just for the fun of it. While my online adventures date back to the mid 1980's, my web building adventures began in April of 1997 when I started a web site called the Tao and Zen of Questy. I figured the Tao of Questy could be the philosophical side of me, and the Zen of Questy could be the Technological side of me. Questy.us is a mirror of Questy.net stored many miles apart, and is used primarily for backup and storage purposes. Questy.net currently serves as the flagship site of the Worlds of Questy, housing some of the technical information for all other domains. The Tao of Questy also lives on at Questy.net containing original poetry, artwork, and photography to illustrate my personal philosophy. Domains computerguru.net and questy.com In 1998, I decided to take the construction of a technology web site a little more seriously. After searching for an appropriate name for the site, I was surprised to find out that www.computerguru.net was available, and registered it. While the domains computerguru.net and questy.com are nearly mirrors are as far as content, they have been marketed differently as far as which is the the "official" entrance to one of three different portals. On a professional level, as a full time computer support, and a part time computer instructor for a technical community college, technology is a big part of my life, and has been for many years. The Webmaster's Portal at http://www.computerguru.net/learn/ is for self help and tutorials for learning web building, general technology and the Internet. The technology study guides and tutorials portal at http://www.computerguru.net/tech/ contains Study Guides and Tutorials on Basic Technology and Networking Technology. While I used this initially just to store some notes, I have tried to maintain it for use in teaching people networking basics. I do nothing special to market or promote this area, and amazingly the internet has found it, and uses it, as I receive positive feedback from all over the world about my technology study guides. Originally called the Zen of Questy, the Business portal at http://questy.com/zen/ contains articles and commentaries on Capitalism and Communicating to assist people in using technology as a business tool. Domain geekhistory.com started in January 2001 Using a content management system script to pull it together, Geekhistory.com is a site that will help folks to learn about some famous geeks, the history of the internet and operating systems, as well as technology in general. Inspired by the fact that I have been asked many times about the history of various technology topics, and it appears that most folks don't realize the roots of much of the technology we all now take for granted. Domain smarttechnology.info started in October 2001 SmartTechnology.Info is about using technology smarter to make your life easier. These thoughts are based on my many interactions over the years with a wide variety of technology users. Sure, you know how to use technology, at least you think you do. But how successful have you been in Integrating Technology into your business? Have you really used technology to work smarter rather than harder? This online community is a sharing of ideas to use technology smarter to make your life easier, and increase your productivity, without increasing your Frustration. This site is also used to communicate activities with students currently taking a web building class, as well as a working model to those who are seeking ideas for using a Content Management System. Domain americanphilosopher.us started in December 2002 What started out as merely a philosophy site, under a different domain name, turned into a more American site with the name change to AmericanPhilosopher.US. Justice and Liberty for All? Visionaries? Idealistic Radicals? What do they all have in common? Some writings on the origins of society, you will also find some material on this site on the origins of "Questy." Domain philosophyguru.net started in March 2003 Philosophyguru.Net is my personal playground to have some fun, share some ideas. In an effort to illustrate the use of PHP scripts, as well as have some fun, I have my personal blog set up here (http://philosophyguru.net/tom/), as well as a photo album (http://www.philosophyguru.net/roadtrip/). Domain web-site-in-a-can.com started in May of 2005 Web-site-in-a-can.com, was just recently started as a prototype as well as an information center for folks looking for quick and easy ways to create dynamic web sites. |
