JAVA Sun Microsystems' Java is a programming language for adding animation and other action to Web sites developed by Sun Microsystems. Java was originally called OAK, and was designed for handheld devices and set-top boxes. Oak was unsuccessful so in 1995 Sun changed the name to Java and modified the language to take advantage of the World Wide Web. Java is designed to be platform independent Similar
to C++ in many ways, but Java is optimized to be a portable,
object-oriented language.
The small applications (called applets) that Java creates can play back on any graphical system that's Web-ready, but your Web browser has to be Java-capable. When a web page visitor links to your Java powered web page, the web server downloads the web page HTML file and then the Java applets, much like an image is loaded, and attached to a web page. For the the average web site designer Java Applets are easier to use than CGI, because they run from the same PC as the browser, rather than interacting with a server. Where to get applets? Applets
are Java Applications. Like most other simple applications,
you could buy them, as well as find them along the web as
shareware and freeware applications. How to use applets? Using
an already made applet is as simple as enterning any other
HTML tags. |
