Not a language but a specification developed by Sun Microsystems that  defines how Java objects interact.

ActiveX

This set of technologies from Microsoft provides tools for linking desktop applications to the World Wide Web. For instance, ActiveX technology can allow users to view Word and Excel documents directly in a browser. ActiveX was to be Microsoft's answer to JAVA. This is one Microsoft product that really hasn't caught on.
